I do really love this semla. The bun is lovely and soft, the cream is soft and, well, creamy (some semlors have cream that's sweetened). The almond paste is salty but roasted and contains sizable chunks of almonds.

It got a 4/5 last year. I wanted to give it 4/5 again but the cream was a little too soft this time and a little too much. It had already started to loose it's shape and wet the bun. The lid tried to be triangular, but was thin and untrimmed.

So basically, it tasted excellent - which of course is the most important thing - but there were multiple things that weren't quite right, so it isn't allowed a 4 this time. Which pains me to say, but those are the rules of the game.

I don't mark down for this, but this is another bakery that insists on using "Semla" boxes with plastic windows. It's ridiculous. I know what it looks like when I buy it, I know what it looks like when I eat it - I really don't need a window to look at it through while I transport it home.
