Söderbergs Bageri

There's always something exciting about the first of the season, which means trying to keep a level head when rating! One in one out at Söderbergs in Telefonplan, but it went quick and they were very friendly and cheerful.

The semlor itself has a lovely triangular lid and is a nice size. They do a small version too. It was packed into a "SEMLA" box with a plastic window. Bakeries really need to stop getting boxes like this from Bageriproduker. I don't need to see my semla when transporting it home!

The bread was soft and fresh with a hint of cardamom, but I didn't manage to get any almond paste on the first two bites, just bread and cream - which was a real surprise for a semla of this size. When I did get to the paste it was quite run of the mill. The quality and inventiveness of almond paste generally in recent years has really taken off, leaving this feeling a bit "old school".
