"Copious nuts!"
2022 season review
29th January 2022
I picked up this semla from one of Skeppsbro bageri's 6 bread trucks that tour around Stockholm. As they've spent a few hours in the truck, stored at an angle, they look just a little bit weathered. In fact, the bun itself is a little "wrinkly" on the outside.
And I'm going to complain again about the use of @bageriprodukter 's semla boxes with a plastic windows. STOP USING THEM!
One thing you can't miss with this semla is the copious amount of chopped Spanish almonds. There's a full layer of roughly chopped plain nuts on top of the almond paste. The paste itself has a slight roasted taste, and together with the nuts results in a consistent and good crunch throughout eating.
The cream tasted great, even though it had lost a little of its visual sharpness by the time I ate it. The bun though was a little too dry for my liking and was weak on cardamom - it was there, I could see it and taste it, but it needed more. Nevertheless, this was a nice eat!
