"Burger boxed semla"
2025 season review
23rd February 2025
It's the first time I've been served a semla in a burger box. A great idea, much better for a single semla than one with a plastic window. It does though cause the lid of the semla to touch the carton, as the semla is 8.5cm tall.
It's a 8x8cm 149g medium semla with a triangular lid. The lid has been dusted with icing sugar before being placed back on top.
The whipped cream has been whipped to perfection and nicely stabilised with the open star piping forming fantastic deep contours as it swirls around the bun.
No visible paste or nuts before starting but I just managed to get a little paste in what was quite a bready first bite.
The bread though had a clear taste of cardamom, soft and a nice structure. Three bites in and I'm still getting mostly bread and a little cream but not much paste.
Basically the well for the paste wasn't centred and I happened to start at the corner furthest away from the brown nectar.
The paste was nice, dark and nutty, with what I think is a slight amount of almond essence, which makes is frustrating that is was missing or not featuring enough in so many bites.
The cream is unsweetened and whipped to exactly the right firmness.
Good, and should have been a 4 but it's details that matter at the top end of the scale, especially at the high end of the price scale too!
