"Pretty and traditional"
2026 season review
22nd January 2026
Lovely friendly service at Lundbergs in a traditional location, established in 1946 as the blue text on the white cardboard box reminds us. The pâtisserie also still has the classic neon sign above the store front.
The semlor has a triangular lid and a wonderful large swirl of cream piped in two layers that looks excellent, especially from above.
The large was 214g. 9cm tall. 9.5cm wide and 59kr. There's a small available for 49kr, and they do semlor for 45kr on Mondays.
The cream is nicely stabilised and has held its shape completely, with no sign of weeping at all even after the 2 hours from when I purchased it to when I ate it.
The lid has a complete covering of icing sugar, a step up from just a dusting.
Paste, cream and bun are reached on the first bite. The cream is plentiful and flavoursome. The bun is soft and fresh. I can see the cardamom in the bun, but the taste is not coming through so strongly. It's the paste and cream that dominate.
The filling is traditional with a strong almond flavour. What I initially thought was a piece of almond was actually a sizable lump of almond paste. There were quite a few lumps, a result of the filling not being mixed thoroughly enough. Mixed in too were some almond slivers. It's a sweet filling with a strong almond taste, and overall the flavour balance of the semla between almond paste, cream and cardamom could be improved.
And, generally, you know you've eaten a 200-plus gram selma by the time you've reached the end! 😅.
Pretty and traditional, just like Lindbergs itself in Gröndal.
