This is the kind of semla that is greated with a heavy sigh. It's ok James, you can do it. Here goes.

It has a massive untrimmed lid. The bread is dry and comprises quite a substantial part of the whole semla. It tastes more of vanilla than anything else. I can see dots of cardamom but can't taste them. There are traces of finely chopped nuts in the almond paste. But it's mostly sugary and vanillary. The cream seems to have icing sugar in it, so it tastes more sweet than creamy.

All in all It didn't actually taste like a semla - Which, in some ways, is quite an impressively achievement! An impressively bad one.
